Our response to the COVID-19 outbreak

It’s certainly a time that we've never seen the likes of before, and whether you’re feeling confused, overwhelmed, anxious, relaxed or a bit of everything, that’s okay. Things are a bit different, but our drive to support boys and young men to be healthier and safer is the same.

The health and well-being of our team, the boys and young men we mentor and their communities is our utmost priority - it's at the very core of what we do! While there’s been no cause for serious concern, we’re making some reasonable adjustments and taking precautionary steps, as advised by the Department of Health, to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) and other possible infections. Our approach to this situation is to keep doing what we’re doing with some tweaks, but with the same support and eagerness to help as many boys and young men out there be as safe and healthy as possible.

WHAT WE'RE DOING

The entire Top Blokes team has been trained in hygiene etiquette as per Department of Health’s guidelines. We were already pretty good at this, but we’ve upped our standards and requirements by ensuring we:

  • Regularly and thoroughly wash and/or sanitise our hands for at least 20 seconds using the techniques put forth by the Department of Health

  • Employ appropriate behaviours and etiquette to avoid spreading germs and infections

  • Avoid handshakes and instead implement healthier (and more creative!) means of greeting those we work with

  • Practise social distancing (keeping a distance of 1.5 metres) as much as possible or transfer our communications to digital means

  • Continually update our standards and requirements, as per the advice of the Department of Health and medical professionals.

While we’re still delivering some programs in-person, we’re working closely with schools, community organisations and the Department of Education to ensure we effectively follow their procedures to protect the health and well-being of everyone involved.

Should any of our team members test positive for COVID-19, we will immediately implement our response plan to isolate ourselves, practise appropriate protection measures and update any concerning parties. We will not continue our programs in-person until all necessary team members return a negative test result for COVID-19. This is in line with advice from the Department of Health.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

For those of you who have scheduled meetings with us, we’ll be in contact with you to propose moving our meetings to phone or online platforms.

Last but not least, please take care of yourselves and reach out to those around you.

Stay safe, stay busy and stay connected. It starts with us.
