MENTORING FOR WORKPLACES

ensuring psychological safety

At Top Blokes, we know workplaces have legal, ethical and financial responsibilities when it comes to mental health and wellbeing at work. Research by the Productivity Commission shows that psychologically safe workplaces see higher loyalty, better performance, lower absenteeism, and stronger workplace culture.

Our workplace mental health program is aligned with Safe Work Australia guidelines and helps employers meet psychosocial safety obligations. More importantly, it builds teams where young men feel safe, respected and supported. When that happens, workplaces keep their staff longer, relationships improve, and culture becomes stronger.

For young male employees, psychological safety means having the confidence to speak up, contribute, and seek support without fear of judgement. They learn how to manage stress, strengthen relationships, and build resilience and leadership skills that carry through their careers.

From the program

Three RAAF servicemen – Connor, Liam, and Pedro – openly discuss mental health challenges in the defence force and how the 18-24 mentoring program has positively impacted them, their families, and their work teams.

How it works: Tailored workplace wellbeing

Every workplace is different. That’s why we co-design each workplace wellbeing program with employers so it meets business goals while addressing the real needs of young male staff. Groups are kept small so participants feel safe to connect, share and grow.

We don’t just work with young men – we stay connected with managers too. Through check-ins and resources, supervisors are equipped to back their young staff and build stronger relationships across the team.

Weekly mentoring sessions give young men space to reflect, return with questions and apply what they’ve learned in real time. This rhythm builds trust, confidence and lasting positive habits at work.

We track progress through surveys and feedback. At the end of the program, employers receive a clear impact report showing improvements in wellbeing, communication, resilience and team culture – demonstrating the ROI of workplace mental health programs.

I didn’t realise how much I was cooping up things that were bothering me and this course gave me the skills to be able to deal with these issues and address them at the forefront instead of letting them be pushed to the side

Top Blokes has been by far the most significant program I have done in the RAAF. The shared experiences and open discussion between the guys was invaluable.

My lightbulb moment was realising that everyone has the same struggles that no one ever talks about.
