Empowering masculinities: Mentorship and young men

This month of  @movembertv  our NSW State Manager, Dan heads to the barber chair to chat about the impact of mentoring on boys and young men.

“I’ve always been really lucky; I’ve had great mentors be there for me. I really valued those relationships. Unfortunately for many young men, they don’t have that same mentor, someone in their corner. I felt I had a moral obligation to give back, perhaps be there for someone else.”

“It’s hard to find someone my age who doesn’t know someone who has taken their own life. Sometimes, I think I could or should have helped more. But you can never regret having the conversation. We help give boys the tools to have that chat.”

“We give guys evidence-based information. But more importantly, give people critical thinking skills – the ability to quickly analyse what they think, what they will do.” “Boys have been told for so long that you are the problem; masculinity is the problem. We put masculinity in a positive light. We are strengths-based; we want to champion young men and bring out leaders.”
