In their very first year taking on the Lift the Load Challenge, the team at Midcoast Trucks have made history – raising an incredible $100,523 to support young men’s mental health through the Top Blokes Foundation.
Lift the Load is a month-long challenge where participants wear a weighted vest throughout October – symbolising the invisible load young men often carry when it comes to their mental health. Funds raised go directly towards programs in schools and communities that empower boys to talk openly, build resilience, and look out for one another.
For Midcoast Trucks, this cause hit close to home. With 21 employees under the age of 24, the team saw Lift the Load as an opportunity to start important conversations and show their young workers that mental health matters just as much as physical safety.
“We’re very passionate about this cause,” said Terence from Midcoast Trucks. “We’ve got a lot of young workers – we recognise the importance of giving support to these young people. By wearing this vest and raising essential funds, we’re helping young Australians of the future.”
In a video shared during the challenge, Terence spoke candidly about the realities facing men in his industry:
“A lot of our guys spend long hours on the road, often alone,” he said. “The perception is men are tough, but inside, they’re masking what needs to be expressed. They need help just as much as young kids today, and this is a worthy cause. We’re happy to be on board.”
The team’s dedication went far beyond the office. Terry wore his vest for around 12 hours each day, adding extra walks on top of his usual steps and even walking while travelling through China. Brad completed his kilometres each morning around town, while Brenden took to the beach and local streets. Every kilometre was a symbolic step towards breaking down stigma and supporting young men’s mental health.
What started as a team effort quickly grew into something much bigger – a community-wide show of support. Staff, friends, clients, and suppliers all chipped in, helping Midcoast Trucks become the highest fundraising team in Lift the Load history.
Their incredible effort will directly fund vital mental health programs in schools and communities across Australia – ensuring more young men get the support, mentorship and guidance they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
From everyone at Top Blokes – thank you to the Midcoast Trucks team for leading by example and helping to lift the load for young men across the country.
