Turns out a spinning wheel, beer goggles and a 10kg vest are a pretty good way to get people talking. 😅
We spent @@ruokanyday at Albion Park High chatting about something pretty important: how do you support your mates?
There were questions to spin and answer, beer goggles to test your catching skills with as part of our alcohol education, and a Lift the Load push-up challenge and run!
One of our Top Blokes graduates even came back to help us run the stall, which we loved seeing.
A Year 9 student took out the push-up challenge with 30 push-ups while wearing TWO weight vests. And no, please don’t try that one at home. 😂
Lots of laughs, plenty of conversations and a few practical ideas for looking out for your mates.
That’s a pretty good day in our books.

Not every disagreement needs sorting out straight away.
Sometimes the better move is recognising that you’re too fired up to have the conversation go well. So you pause. Take a bit of space. Then come back to it.
One of our Youth Ambassador Council members puts it pretty simply: recognising what’s happening in yourself can change what happens next.
That’s the real-life stuff our young men are helping us build in a new Level Up workshop – knowing when to step back, how to communicate when things get tense, and how to come back to a conversation without making things worse.
Practical skills. Real situations. Led by the voices of young men themselves.
Pause. Reset. Come back to it.

“The disruptive kid might be the kid who needs you to stick around.”
Youth Worker, Michael remembers a young man who came into Top Blokes. He was disruptive, disengaged and pretty sure he knew all the answers.
A few weeks later, something shifted.
A conversation about alcohol and drugs hit close to home. He opened up about his own family and what he’d seen.
And when he did, the other boys realised they could open up too.
That didn’t happen on day one. It took time. Trust. And someone continuing to show up.
That’s the work behind the Lift the Load vest.
This October, Michael is carrying 10kg for 50km to help more boys and young men have someone in their corner.

Sometimes it’s as simple as having a few more tools in your back pocket.
@aussteel works with a mostly male team and has seen plenty of guys bottle things up and just get on with it.
After the Top Blokes program, Emma, the GM started noticing little changes.
Guys recognising what they were feeling.
Taking a second before reacting.
Thinking things through.
Handling things differently.
Those little changes add up.
They can make work feel better. Relationships stronger. Conversations easier.
That’s the stuff we care about.
Not trying to “fix” boys and young men. Instead, we back them with skills they can use for life.
